Financial Crisis

Despite widespread acknowledgement that the Great Recession of 2007-2008 “officially” ended in 2009, large numbers of individuals and families continue to struggle financially.

  • familiesThe number of people in poverty has risen for four consecutive years
  • The number of home foreclosures in 2011 is double that of the previous year
  • Food stamp usage is at historic levels
  • Unemployment remains stubbornly high

In response to prevailing economic conditions, governmental cost-cutting has resulted in decreases to programs that have traditionally provided safety nets for the most financially vulnerable among us – and responsibility for meeting the needs of such individuals and families is increasingly shifting to the nonprofit sector.

To bridge the gap created by diminished public assistance, Unity Foundation Group provides direct or referral access to resources and other supportive services that can help meet the basic needs of individuals and families facing financial challenges.
